Introduction by Briana Lassiter
In October 2022, I was traveling by plane on one of those terrible seventeen-hour flights; and the Lord had previously instructed me to download several hours of history documentaries to fill the time. Normally, I’d be happy about this, because history excites me, but this time it was all Mayan history, which I confess, bores me to tears.
I very reluctantly obeyed, all the while complaining; and took notes as I listened. When I was finished, the Lord said, “Look down at the land.” So, I looked down at a map of South America, and He continued, “You know the land is still in bondage because of what the Mayans did there,” to which I replied, “No Lord, I didn’t know that.” Then He asked, “Well, what are you going to do about it”?
Startled by the question, I pondered for a minute but didn’t have any bright ideas, so I just responded with, “I don’t know Lord,” and forgot all about it.
About a month later I was desperately seeking the Lord for solutions regarding a family member who was suffering terribly with many things. My husband and I have fasted together often for this particular situation, but it had been two years of fasting and praying with what seemed like zero change.
Our cry was, “God, what is the root issue? We need tangible answers for this.” Very clearly the answer came, The Druid Prayer, The Mayan Prayer, and The Babylon Prayer.”
“Great!” I thought a bit sarcastically. I know someone has a prayer of repentance for the Druid junk, and I know right where the Babylon prayer is; but I also know a prayer of repentance for the Mayan junk doesn’t exist! What now?
Little did I know, the Lord was about to take me on a whirlwind eleven days of intensive Mayan history crash course. I didn’t eat, sleep or get out of my pajamas until I had completed many hours of immersing myself in historical documents, archeology, ancient texts translated into English, and what seemed like endless documentaries.
By day seven, I had the command to write; and as I sat down at a blank computer screen in obedience I cried out, “But what am I to write Lord?” I felt like my head had been crammed full of pointless history, and I just didn’t get it!
Each sentence of The Mayan Prayer exists because as I cried out to the Lord, He helped me know what to write, taking His lessons and putting them into a useable form.
I can’t take credit for anything having to do with The Mayan Prayer because it is a direct answer from the Lord to our own desperate pleas for help. He answered by cleaning up our generational junk so our family could live in Isaiah 58:
“Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins. Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the judgment of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to God. ‘Why have we fasted, and you see it not? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?’ Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and oppress all your workers. Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high. Is such the fast that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and a day acceptable to the Lord? “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. “If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly; then you shall take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Many times as we do generational or personal cleanup, we don’t see tangible affects right away. Often though, we can look back after many years and chart the clear results; but that requires patience and committing the ongoing process of deliverance to the Lord. In this particular story, the affects for us were immediate and tangible, just as we had asked; and six months later they are even clearer.
Sometimes our healing and freedom can feel so bogged down and hidden, yet this is why I love deliverance; it is at the heart of Jesus and His whole purpose for coming to earth. His name is synonymous with freedom, and as we submit to the oft-times ugly process of getting free, we engage with His heart; and receive the gift of knowing Him better in return.
This is the whole point of our existence; this is what we were created for – relationship with the Lord! The need for deliverance and healing will pass away someday. All those with Mayan ancestry will someday be with the Lord, and no one will use The Mayan Prayer anymore. Our gifts and exercising them in fancy ministries will become unnecessary when we see the Lord face to face. But the gift of His friendship, and the joy of experiencing life with Him, will last forever.
