Revelation has come slowly about the length, width, height and depth, which is from a curious phrase in Ephesians 3:18. The Lord has showed us that the length is the place of sexual joining, intended to be the place where husband and wife are joined. The mystery of the sexual union is that much that is good happens in this joining. However, things get complicated when this sort of joining takes place outside of marriage. Then there is an ungodly sexual joining, and such actions include not only consensual sex acts but also inappropriate sexual touch, rape, or sexual involvement with pornography. In a sense, at that point you have left mom and dad and cleaved (joined) to another. If you are a child when this happens, you have now left your parents so if they discipline you, your soul objects in rebellion, “Why are you telling me what to do? I have already left you and joined to another.” The Bible confirms this, for sexual activity was always present in the rebellion of the children of Israel when they worshipped Baal. Numbers 25:3 states that in the sexual activity, Israel was joined to Baal; tragic because Israel was always meant to join with Elohim (Deu. 30:20). In 1 Corinthians 6:15-16, Paul reminds us that sex with a prostitute will result in a joining. Think about the complexity in a marriage if one person has been sexually abused or had multiple partners (common in our ‘hook up’ culture). How does one completely join to their spouse while scattered in so many places in the ungodly length?
