I knew that I had to go and visit the redwoods; it was as if I was being drawn to them. I had seen the California redwoods a few times in my life, but why was this necessary? It is a long drive! But we were planning a vacation and Donna wanted to see Yosemite again, so I had the idea to include a road trip up highway 99 to Yosemite and then drive over to the redwoods on the coast. We invited a friend to join us and off we went. Arriving on familiar ground, I again wondered at the majesty of the redwoods but there was no ‘ah-ha’ as to why I was there. Driving toward home via Hwy 1, we reached Santa Cruz and decided to take a railroad tour into the redwoods. As the narrator informed us of the nature of the redwoods, he revealed something startling! The redwoods are almost impervious to destruction because the root system of each tree interlocks with other redwood trees. It is their unity that supports them during the heavy Pacific storms. This was a teaching moment from the Lord as He re-emphasized to me how vital our unity in Christ is as we war together against the enemy. Unity sustains us in our Christian lives. “Psalm 133:1-2 (TPT), “How truly wonderful and delightful it is to see brothers and sisters living together in sweet unity. It’s as precious as the sacred scented oil flowing from the head of the high priest Aaron, dripping down upon his beard and running all the way down to the hem of his priestly robes.”
